Elaine S. DeMeyer, MSN, RN, AOCN®, BMTCN® is the owner of beyond Oncology Education, LLC and has been a nurse entrepreneur for more than two decades. She knew she wanted to work in cancer care at a young age when her mother died of cancer before she graduated high school. Her career began with a BS in physiology with a minor in chemistry from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and then a BSN and MSN from St. Louis University. She has been an oncology nurse for more than three decades with roles as staff nurse, nurse educator, nursing school faculty, clinical nurse specialist (CNS), managing editor, scientific director, medical writer, and chief operating officer.
Elaine leverages her healthcare background along with creativity, business knowledge, and collaborative relationships to improve oncology care through numerous partnerships on a variety of projects including:
- An online oncology nursing curriculum for a large international healthcare organization;
- An oncology health literacy project;
- A lung cancer care coordination model;
- Various print and online publications including peer reviewed;
- Numerous nursing blogs and posts;
- An oncology nursing speaker and nurse author mentorship program;
- And hundreds of educational activities including certification reviews like OCN
Elaine is not only partners with national and international organizations, but remains active in her Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) community through her involvement with Cancer Support Community North Texas (CSCNT) and the Dallas Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
One of her life goals is to inspire, encourage, and motivate nurses and other oncology care team members to choose a career in oncology and stay in oncology. She is best known for her creativity in education using original and inspiring ideas to teach difficult concepts, highly engage learners, and mentor new nurse speakers and authors. Throughout her career, she has received several awards including the:
- Annual Scholarship in her name from the Dallas Chapter ONS
- CURE Extraordinary Healer Finalist
- CJON Mentorship Award (mentee)
- ONS CNS Mentorship Award (mentee)
- Amgen ONS Research Grant Award
- Josh Gotheil Memorial Bone Marrow Transplant Career Development Award
In her free time, she enjoys reading, musicals, and the spa. She has been married to Dan for 35 years and her greatest joys are her three children, Stephanie, Philip, Marissa (and her husband Stephen), and her grandson, Josiah.
